Permanent Makeup
The Permanent Makeup Program is designed for students seeking comprehensive education in cosmetic tattooing through a combination of online didactic instruction and hands-on clinical training. Students must first complete the Permanent Makeup Fundamentals course, which serves as the required prerequisite for all technique-specific labs, followed by obtaining a Bloodborne Pathogens Certification for Body Art from an approved provider before participating in any in-person clinical training. After meeting these prerequisites, students may choose to enroll in one or more hands-on clinical labs—including Microblading, Machine Brows, Lip Blushing, and additional techniques as they become available—allowing them to customize their training based on their professional goals. A separate Certificate of Completion is awarded for each technique successfully completed.

Permanent Makeup Fundamentals - PMU101
The Permanent Makeup Fundamentals course serves as the required prerequisite for all permanent makeup technique-specific labs offered through IOMA. Delivered in a flexible online format, this comprehensive course provides students with the foundational knowledge necessary to safely and effectively perform cosmetic tattooing procedures. Course topics include skin anatomy and physiology, wound healing, color theory, pigment science, facial anatomy, consultation and informed consent, facial mapping principles, contraindications, infection prevention, sanitation, documentation, client communication, treatment planning, aftercare, complication recognition, and the legal, ethical, and business considerations of practicing permanent makeup.
Successful completion of the Permanent Makeup Fundamentals course is required before students may register for any hands-on clinical lab.
Microblading Lab - PMU201
The Microblading Lab provides supervised clinical instruction focused on the art and technique of manual eyebrow tattooing. Building upon the knowledge gained in the Permanent Makeup Fundamentals course, students develop the technical skills necessary to create natural-looking hairstroke eyebrows through guided, hands-on training. Students will refine their understanding of brow design, facial symmetry, pigment selection, skin assessment, blade selection, stretching techniques, and proper procedural workflow. Clinical instruction includes instructor demonstrations, latex practice, and supervised live model procedures, allowing students to develop confidence while adhering to industry standards for safety, sanitation, and treatment quality.
Students who successfully complete all required competencies will receive a Microblading Certificate of Completion.
Machine Brows Lab - PMU202
The Machine Brows Lab provides advanced hands-on training in machine-based eyebrow enhancement techniques. Students apply the foundational principles learned in the Permanent Makeup Fundamentals course while developing proficiency in digital machine operation, needle selection, pigment implantation, and eyebrow design. Instruction emphasizes consultation, treatment planning, facial analysis, brow mapping, machine settings, depth control, stretching techniques, and consistent pigment implantation. Students gain experience through instructor demonstrations, guided practice on latex, and supervised procedures performed on live models.
Students who successfully complete all required competencies will receive a Machine Brows Certificate of Completion.
Lip Blushing Lab - PMU203
The Lip Blushing Lab focuses on the principles and clinical application of cosmetic lip pigmentation using digital machine techniques. Students expand upon their foundational knowledge by learning procedure-specific assessment, treatment planning, and implantation techniques for enhancing lip color, definition, and symmetry. Clinical instruction covers lip anatomy, color selection, lip mapping, machine configuration, needle selection, stretching techniques, procedural workflow, and proper aftercare recommendations. Through instructor demonstrations, guided latex practice, and supervised live model procedures, students develop the technical skills necessary to perform lip blushing safely and effectively.
Students who successfully complete all required competencies will receive a Lip Blushing Certificate of Completion.
